"Invalid code" — Fixing time synchronization issues
Getting an "Invalid code" message when you try to log in? In most cases this is because the clock on your phone isn't quite in sync.
Why does the clock matter?
The 6-digit codes your authenticator app generates are based on the current time. A new code is calculated every 30 seconds. If your phone's clock is even 30 seconds off from the actual time, your app generates a code that no longer matches what Ziber Team expects. The result: "Invalid code."
Solution: sync the clock
On Android
Google Authenticator:
- Open the Google Authenticator app.
- Tap the menu in the top right (three dots).
- Go to Settings > Time correction for codes.
- Tap Sync now.
Microsoft Authenticator:
- Go to your phone settings.
- Open Date and time.
- Turn on Automatic date and time (or Use network-provided time).
On iPhone (iOS)
- Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
- Turn on Set Automatically.
This makes your phone sync its clock automatically with a time server, after which the codes will be correct again.
Still getting an invalid code?
- Wait for the next code. If you enter a code just before it expires, it may have just changed. Wait for a new code to appear and try again.
- Check you're using the right account. If you have multiple accounts in your authenticator app, make sure you're entering the code for Ziber Team.
- Use a recovery code. Can't get it to work at all? Log in with one of your recovery codes and set up 2FA again.
